ADHD Squirrel Moments: The Verification Code Rabbit Hole ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

When a simple verification code turns into a 30-minute adventure.

A funny pastel illustration of a distracted squirrel surrounded by emails and shopping icons as a verification code expires, while a phone offers an easy copy-code option.

Can we talk about verification codes for a minute?

You know those little six-digit codes websites send you to prove you're actually you?

Well, let me tell you why I prefer getting mine through text messages instead of email.

It's not because I don't like email. It's because I have ADHD, and apparently, opening my inbox is like releasing a squirrel into a forest full of shiny objects.

Let me explain.

I'm trying to log into a website. Everything is going great until those dreaded words appear:

"We've sent a verification code to your email."

Oh, great.

So, off to my email I go.

I open my inbox, fully intending to retrieve that little six-digit code.

But wait!

What's that email?

Oh, I need to read that.

And look! There's a sale going on!

Oh, I forgot I was supposed to order something.

Speaking of ordering something, I wonder if that package I ordered last week ever shipped.

Let me check.

Wait a minute. Why am I on Amazon?

And just like that, the squirrel has taken over. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Twenty minutes later...

I'm sitting there wondering what I was originally doing.

Then it hits me.

MY VERIFICATION CODE!

I hurry back to my email, find the code, and return to the website.

Only to be greeted with:

"Your verification code has expired. Please request a new code."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

So, I request another code.

Back to my email I go.

And wouldn't you know it?

SQUIRREL! ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

There I go, right back down the rabbit hole.

At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever convince this website that I am, in fact, me.

And THAT, my friends, is why I prefer verification codes sent by text message.

Now, I'm not saying text messages are completely squirrel-proof.

Because, let's be honest, I've been known to open my messages, notice a conversation I forgot to answer, and disappear down another rabbit hole.

But thank goodness for that wonderful little feature that lets you copy a verification code without actually opening your text messages!

Whoever thought of that deserves a medal.

Seriously.

Because now I can get my code, paste it into the website, and finish what I started before my brain discovers seventeen other things that suddenly need my attention.

Mission accomplished!

Well, unless I forget why I was logging into that website in the first place.

But that's another squirrel moment for another day. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

A Little ADHD Truth

This is one of those things people without ADHD might not understand.

It's not that we don't want to finish what we're doing. We really do!

But sometimes one little distraction leads to another, and before we know it, we've completely forgotten the original mission.

Our brains don't always follow a straight path from Point A to Point B.

Sometimes they take a detour through C, D, E, the grocery store, Amazon, and three emails from last Tuesday before remembering that Point B even existed.

And honestly? Sometimes all you can do is laugh.

Because if you're living with ADHD, you know the squirrel is always lurking somewhere nearby.

Now I have a question for my fellow ADHD squirrels:

Have you ever gotten distracted while retrieving a verification code and let it expire?

Or better yet, what's the funniest rabbit hole you've gone down while trying to accomplish one simple task?

Please tell me I'm not the only one! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

Still Faithful, Still a Messโ€”and apparently still trying to verify that I'm me. ๐Ÿ’œ
